On March 12, Reuters quoted people familiar with the matter as saying that Waymo, an unmanned car subsidiary of Alphabet, the parent company of Google, has been seeking external investment from European automakers such as Volkswagen. In addition to Volkswagen, other potential investors may include automakers, such as Fiat Chrysler and Jaguar, that currently make cars for Waymo. Alphabet has not yet responded to requests for comment. Last month, Reuters reported that Volkswagen and Ford, the second-largest U.S. automaker, were also negotiating with Volkswagen to invest in the driverless car sector of the latter, but the amount of the investment was unknown.
