早在 2016 年曾有一位名叫 DoctorM64 的独立开发者公布了任天堂旗下经典作品《银河战士2》的自制版重制作品《AM2R》（Another Metroid 2 Remake） ，本作经过这名粉丝长达 10 年多的开发，但在公布后遭到任天堂的叫停，原因是任天堂正好开启了 3DS 版《银河战士2》重制项目《银河战士：萨姆斯归来》。不过这名粉丝并没有放弃自己作品，而是不断更新直到推出了《AM2R》的 1.5 版本，为痴迷该系列的粉丝带来了一款优秀的同人作品。 在《AM2R》项目开展近五年后的今天，DoctorM64 再次更新了《AM2R》的博客，正文寥寥数字写着“一场新的旅途”（A New Story...），并附上了为期三天的倒计时，倒计时结束时间正好是《银河战士》系列第 35 周年的 8 月 6 日纪念
