在去年7月的时候，万代南梦宫宣布日本以外的首个 1:1 高达立像项目 - 自由高达立像将进驻中国，落成于上海。目前建设项目正在稳步进行中，官方于今日放出了该工程的第二弹纪录片「艰难险阻 - 建设实物大自由高达立像的挑战」：纪录片时长 12 分钟，主要讲述作为立像主轴的钢架和组成外观的玻璃钢部件的制作和预组装过程。预组装高达要求非常高的精度，实物和图纸的误差需要控制在 8 毫米以内，中方工作人员为了能顺利拼装做了很多努力。此外还发生了不少小插曲：V 型天线的一部分零件从日本运输过来时折断了，需要后期进行粘贴；预组装时玻璃钢固件没法和钢架拼接，花了大量时间进行钢架的调整等等。
